The 5th-grade morning announcers have done a fabulous job recognizing Asian American and Pacific Islanders throughout the month of May.

In May 1990, President Bush proclaimed the month of May as Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month. May was chosen to commemorate the immigration of the first Japanese to the United States on May 7, 1843. At Orchard School, we are recognizing the contribution and influence of Asian and Pacific Islander Americans. Every morning we feature an important person who has made a difference. Ask your children over dinner - what important Asian American person they learned about this month.
